If you are passionate about promoting the health and well-being of individuals with drug and alcohol challenges, the Addictions Worker education program will interest you.
This program will prepare you to work in entry-level positions, one to one, or in group settings with clients experiencing alcohol and drug abuse issues.
The demand for Addiction Workers is growing in all areas of health care and your employment prospects are excellent. Treatment centres, detox centres, recovery homes, group homes, and prevention programs, all hold opportunities for Addictions Workers.
Your empathy, genuine desire to help, respect for others and good communications skills, combined with the excellent education you'll receive through The Addictions Worker program, will open many doors on your healthcare career path.
As a successful graduate, professional and paraprofessional employment opportunities are waiting for you in; child, youth and family social service agencies, and programs dealing with alcohol and drug abuse, family violence and the aged. You'll find opportunities at Correctional and community mental health centres and facilities, or services which assist individuals who are challenged physically and developmentally.
This course could just be the beginning for you. Graduates of the Addictions Worker program are encouraged to apply to the Addiction Intervention Association (AIA) for the designation of Associate Counselor of Alcohol and other Drugs (ACAD). This will be available once you have completed formal education and as you work towards certification requirements.*

*The Addiction Intervention Association is the Canadian Certification board for Alcohol and Drug Counselors which offers internationally recognized certifications. Examinations for these certifications can only be taken upon completion of significant levels of work experience in the profession.
