Everest College's diploma program will prepare you to become a vital team member in a dental practice. You will learn a broad range of clinical and laboratory skills in conjunction with extensive guidance in the administrative and interpersonal areas.
Your practical, hands-on learning will prepare you to work on your own and as part of the dental team. You will learn to take and process radiographs, polish teeth, apply fluoride treatments and instruct clients in oral hygiene. And that’s just the beginning. You will also become adept in the application of topical aesthetic and whitening and desensitizing agents. Your administrative education will also be extensive and will include manual and computerized bookkeeping and appointment control. In short, you will use all of your skills and abilities - technical, administrative and interpersonal.
This is an excellent long-term career and your employment prospects will be varied. Positions are available in private and group general practices, or you may choose to specialize in areas such as; periodontics, endodontics, or oral surgery. You could also work in a hospital, dental laboratory, public health department, or as a sales representative for a dental distribution/manufacturing company.
Once you have completed this program you can choose to write the Ontario Dental Nurses and Assistants Association (ODN and AA) exam to become a recognized Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). (Note: You must register and pay examination fees to the ODN and AA.
Graduates of this diploma program are also eligible to write the National Level II Certification exam, offered by the National Dental Assisting Examination Board (NDAEB). (Note: All graduates must successfully challenge this exam before using their Intra-Oral (Level II) skills in a dental office).
