Manitoba is a prairie province that is warmly referred to as the "Gateway to the West." Here you can find many great landscapes from sand dunes and ancient granite to waterfalls and lakes to forests and arctic tundra. You will find a deep cultural heritage through the many Francophone and Aboriginal communities. One of the most well-known areas of the province is the northern tundra. In the summer, you can swim and snorkel with the Beluga whales or come in the late fall and view the hundreds of polar bears waiting for the Hudson Bay to freeze over.
In the late winter months, nothing is better than watching the Northern Lights dance across the sky. You can also spend time in the multicultural city of Winnipeg or take up a game at one of the 125 golf courses across the province. In addition, Manitoba is a bird watcher's paradise, as it attracts two-thirds of Canada's bird species. Many famous musicians, actors, and artists have also come from Manitoba, including the original Winnie the Pooh.
