Training will prepare you to work with special needs clients, and you will learn the essential professional responsibilities and behaviours of an effective Health Care Assistant. Your ability to work on a team and independently is essential, as you work one-on-one with clients in a multidisciplinary team environment.

The program starts with teaching you the history of social work, allowing you to understand the issues and challenges presented in the field. You will then explore major body systems and the gross anatomy of the human body. You will learn to care for the chronically ill, offering the special care and attention they require. You will also understand the physiological responses of addictive behaviours and its role within health care. It is imperative you fine-tune your interpersonal and communication abilities as you are the tie between residents, families, staff, and peers.

You finish the program with a seven week practicum; three weeks in intermediate care and four weeks in an extended care facility. This combination of practice and comprehensive theory will make you a sought-after graduate. Abundant employment possibilities will be available to you.
